7th Convocation of DIU 2018
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, MP handing over Chancellor’s Award to a recipient at the 7th Convocation of Daffodil International University held today at DIU permanent Campus. Convocation Speaker, Dr. Kakha Shengelia,Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Professor Dr. Yousuf M Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU are seen among others.
Daffodil International University is playing a vital role to fulfill the dream of ‘Digital Bangladesh’. One of the main objectives of the present government is to develop quality education. Morale education, ethical, social and human values are very important for building an ideal nation and the role of Daffodil International University is appreciable in this regard.
He said these while addressing as presidential address of the 7th Convocation of Daffodil International University held today on January 10, 2018 at Ashulia permanent Campus of the university. Delegated by Md. Abdul Hamid, Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of Daffodil International University Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh presided over the Convocation ceremony and conferred the degrees.
Dr. Kakha Shengelia, Honorable President, International Association of University Presidents & President of Caucasus University, Georgia attended the convocation as the Convocation Speaker. The convocation was also addressed by Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees and Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahabubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of the university.
Education Minister said , we never differentiate between the students of private and public universities. All are our children and we want to ensure quality educator for all of them. Some private universities still now couldn’t full fill minimum criteria and we have no alternate to go for legal action about those universities, he added. He urged the university owners to come forward with mankind and serving mentality to contribute in education giving up the profit and business mentality.
Mentioning the MoU with Bangladesh Agro Processor Association (BAPA) Education Minister said, Daffodil International University is contributing a lot through developing skilled manpower for the agro based processed food projects of the present government and he thanked the university authority.
He urged the fresh graduates to come forward with new innovations of information and technology through research works utilizing the gained knowledge of morality and ethics from the university which will help Bangladesh to uphold its head at the top in the world as well as full fill the dreaming Golden Bangladesh of Bangabondhu.
Convocation Speaker Dr. Kakha Shengelia said, the future growth of the world lies in creation of human wealth and to create this wealth, we need quality driven institutions like Daffodil International University. All we need is to make our human resources more and more skilled and competent. He hoped that the graduates of DIU are competent enough to serve their nation by upholding its prestige and stature with the knowledge, skills and aptitude which have been entrenched during their time at DIU.
Among the fresher’s graduates Dr. Kakha Shengelia said, you need unique traits for achieving success, While entering into the life with a mission. First of all, you have to have an aim in life, a well-thought out one. Secondly, you have to acquire knowledge continuously as a life-long autonomous learner. Thirdly, you have to put in your honest hard work and fourthly, you have to have perseverance to meet your goals in life. Another important quality is the ability to work with knowledge acquisition constantly for an aim and convert it into expected outcomes. To achieve this, you will need to constantly practice and evaluate your own actions and ideas at all times, he urged the students.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdull Mannan said in the convocation that the number of universities and university students have been increasing geometrically after independence of Bangladesh. The prime responsibility of a teacher is teaching, but research activities are very important to uphold a university at international standard. Without research work a university turns into a sale center of certificates only which is not our expectation. Daffodil International University is a standard private university in our country which has a great reputation in the international arena, he added.
UGC Chairman also said, most of the private universities are interested to introduce job market oriented courses which can’t be a goal of a university. The mission and vision of a university should be enriching the youths with proper knowledge in such a way so that they can be not only a good citizen but also can lead the country in every sector in future, he added.
He also said, the prime objective of a university should create research environment and encouraging teachers and students in research works and I believe that Daffodil International University is aware of it and doing that thing rightly.
In the 7th convocation a total 3,498 students were conferred upon graduation and post graduation degrees and among them 15 best result oriented graduates were awarded ‘Gold Medal’ in different categories.
The Chancellors Gold Medal winners are Sadia Afroz, Pankaj Kumar Sha, Tamatun Islam Tanha of Public Health Department, Muhammad Zakaria Bhuiyan of ETE department, Eosha Anika of Business Administration department and Md. Riazur Rahman of CSE department.
